Methodology: How We Research Candidates

What we collect

For every candidate on Wisconsin's 2026 general-election ballot, we compile from public sources: biography, experience, campaign funding (where reported), and positions on issues — only where documented on the record (candidate websites, questionnaires, interviews, voting records, and reputable news reporting).

What "Not scored" means

If a candidate has no documented position we can compare on a quiz question, they are marked "Not scored — no comparable documented position found." We never infer, guess, or fill in positions a candidate has not stated. An unscored candidate is not a worse candidate; it means we found nothing comparable on the record.

Portraits

Candidate photos appear only when we have verified the photo actually depicts the candidate. Otherwise we show a labeled placeholder. We would rather show no photo than the wrong face.

Nonpartisanship rules

• Every candidate gets the same data fields, the same layout, and the same quiz math.
• Positions are quoted or closely paraphrased from documented sources — never editorialized.
• We do not accept candidate input that other candidates in the same race don't also get; corrections are welcome from anyone and published visibly.
• Quiz results are matches, not endorsements — stated on every results view.

Updates and corrections

Candidate information is refreshed regularly through Election Day. If you spot an error, email contact@mywisconsinballot.com with a source and we will correct it promptly and note the correction.

Known limitations

Our candidate list was assembled from Wisconsin Elections Commission materials, Ballotpedia, and post-primary reporting, and is revalidated against official sources. Drop us a line if a certified candidate is missing or a race lineup has changed.
